Stoneleigh

Description

Settlement between Sir Thomas Leigh of the one part and Thomas Spencer of Lincolns Inn, esq., and Richard Sutton of the same, gent., of the other part (reciting a settlement made on the marriage of Sir Thomas Leigh and Katherine Spencer, dated 11 September 1572; see DR 18/13/1/1); namely that the latter shall take possession of the manors of Stoneleigh, Ashow and Leek Wootton, other premises in Stoneleigh, Ashow, Leek Wootton, Hill Wootton, Kingshill, Cross Grange, Kenilworth, Cryfield, Fletchamstead, Canley, Hurst, Cubbington, Bericote, Finham and Stareton, and the advowsons of Stoneleigh and Leek Wootton, to hold to the use of Lady Katherine Leigh for her jointure, with remainder to the said Sir Thomas Leigh and his issue, or in default, to the use of his brother, Sir William Leigh, and his issue, or in default, to his sisters Alice Conye, Katherine Baber and Lady Winifred Bond. With a proviso that the settlement, in respect of Dame Katherine's jointure, be void if she is permitted to occupy the abbey of Stoneleigh and other lands for life during her widowhood.
