Autograph Collection: Maslin collection

Description

Collection of autograph letters and signatures presented or bequeathed to the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre by Mrs Rose Maslin (formerly M1, M2,M3, M4), in three series, as follows: /1: c.75 letters or signatures arranged alphabetically by writer (formerly M1, M2) /2: c.50 letters arranged alphabetically by writer, addressed to Frederick J. Furnivall (formerly M3) /3: collection of c. 50 letters or signatures, listed randomly (formerly M4a) Rose Maslin, the wife of Victor Maslin, whom she married in 1888, was the daughter of George Ellis, Master of Ceremonies at Windsor Castle, and many of the letters are addressed to him. Others are addressed to .... Willmott, manager of the Lyceum Theatre, London. Most of the writers are literary or dramatic figures. Newspaper cuttings of 1904-07 (in DR1136/8/3) give some account of the origin of the collection.
