Gift with warranty from William Shipley, clerk, Roger Cartwryght', chaplain, Richard Botoner, Thomas Cockes, John Bryghtmer and William Radclif of Coventre, iron-monger, to Richard Welford' of Coventr', carpenter, and Agnes his wife of a messuage and garden adjacent in Coventr' in `vico de Spoun' [Spon Street] between the tenement of Richard Stille and the tenement which Henry Payne mason holds in breadth, and extending in length from the said street to the stream, which said messuage the grantors formerly had by the grant of John Shipley son and heir of Robert Shipley late merchant of Coventr'; to hold the same of the chief lord of the fee. Witnesses: Laurence Cook, mayor of Coventr', John Clerk and John Everdon', bailiffs of the same, John Bron', John Pynchebek, Mathew White, John Deister of Coventr' and others. Dated at Coventr', 10 June, 7 Henry VI. Red seals on 3 tags: i) circular. A design indecipherable between two St. Andrew's crosses. Legend: S' WILLMI DE NEWE--- ii) lost. iii iv on one tag) merchants' marks v vi on one tag) a spread eagle, the letter R. The tags are portions of earlier documents.
