Gift from John de Preston' of Couentr' merchant, John Onley of Couentr' merchant, John Bukmor of Lapworth', Richard Byggyng of Couentr', and William atte Byrches chaplain to Robert Burdet of Kyngeshull' in the parish of Stonley, Joan his wife, Thomas Burdet knt. lord of Arwe [Arrow], William Osbern' of Assheby Leger [Ashby St. Ledgers, co. Northampton] and John Hancoks chaplain of Watford of the manor of Baddesley Clynton' together with the advowson of the church of the said manor and all other appurtenances, which the grantors held by the gift and feoffment of Nicholas Duddeley of Couentr'. To hold the same for ever from the chief lords of the fee for due and customary service. Sealing clause. Witnesses: Thomas Archer de Toneworth; John Broom de Lapworth; Simon Baylly de Rowynton'; John Goodman of the same; Walter Goodman de Baddesley Clynton' and many others. Given at Couentr' Tuesday on the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul 1 Henry IV [29 June 1400]. On a broad tag slit to take five seals: see DR3/145 1. Circular seal of red wax, imperfect. 1/2 in. A shield charged with two mill-rinds and a mullet between a pall inverted, above the shield a cross between a mullet and two lines dancetty, the whole within a headed border. 2. Fragment of red wax. 3. Traces of red wax. 4. ? Hexagonal seal of red wax, incomplete. 3/4 in. A man's head facing a human heart, with foliage, within a six-foil panel. Legend lacking. 5.
