Correspondence: Archer of Tanworth

Description

Francis Woodward, Long Compton to Andrew Archer, Tanworth: Has got [John] Stampe and his wife to acknowledge a fine of Botleys [see DR 37/1/2983]. Warned Stampe that if he failed Archer would think there was an agreement between Woodwards and Stampe and would cause Mr. Palmer to forfeit his bond [for performance]. Stampe and wife hid in London for fear of arrest and would only visit Serjeants Inn at night. Will send acknowledgment 'under my lord Andersons hand' [Sir Edmund Anderson, Ld.C.J. 1582]. [? Stampe and wife Catholics - she nee Isabel Dormer].
