Description
[Postnuptial] settlement dated 15 16 January 1684/5 (old style) between Henry Smith of Bishopton, yeoman, late of Lighthorne and Alice his wife (daughter of Richard Scarlett, deceased) and their trustees John Hawkes of Sherborne, yeoman and William Smith of 'Kingstone', yeoman. Reciting that the said Alice has settled lands and premises in Alveston and Tiddington, her inheritance from her deceased father, upon her husband Henry who by way of settlement upon her, devises to the Ttrustees one half of messuage where late Thomas Ainge dwelt, half of 4 closes half of 'Langley Close', half of two yardlands etc. in Bishopton, etc., together with half all other the hereditaments of the said Henry Smith. In trust for use of Henry Smith for life, remainder to William Smith, eldest son of Henry and Alice and his heirs, with remainder to second and subsequent sons if any of Henry and Alice and their heirs.
