Description

Office copy of will of Henry Baker of Long Compton. (1) Seabridge Close in Stourton, now in tenure William Wilks to wife Elizabeth Baker for life and then to grandson Alexander Buller. If Alexander Buller dies under age then to Henry Croft, Sutton, Glos., gent; Thomas Mander Toddenham, Glos., gent. and John Gibbs, Stourton, weaver, for 99 years In Trust to pay legacies (i) £5 to brother George Baker, Upper Norton. ii) £10 to kinswoman [niece] Elizabeth Soden who lives with testator. iii) £8 to sister Elizabeth, wife of Lawrence Turner, Cherington. iv) £2 to brother Richard Baker, Shipston. v) 10/- to kinsman John Baker, Stourton. vi) £1 to Mary Coldycott, widow of Samuel of Brailes. vii) 10/- to "my brother Baker of Beoly". viii) £3 between sons of William Wilks aforesaid. ix) £10 to Joan Soden, Sibford Gower, widow [sister-in-law] and all her children (except John), equally. Provided that if, within one year of decease of Alexander Buller, legacies are paid by Alexander Tredwell and John Soden (son of Joan) of Sibford Gower then devise for 99 years void and land passes to Tredwell and Soden. After decease of wife and during minority of grandson trustees to use rents to pay one full years rent to George Baker and thereafter invest for benefit of Alexander Buller. (2) Reversion of two tenements and one yard land in Sutton, Glos., held from Lord Petre by lease and devised (by indenture dated 13 June 1710) after testator's death to wife and then grandson to kinsmen Alexander Tredwell and John Soden and Jeffery Tredwell and John Tredwell sons of Thomas Tredwell late of Sibford Gower, yeoman, deceased, subject to payment of £40 legacies as below i) £10 to brother George Baker ii) £2 to sister Elizabeth Turner iii) £3 to brother Richard Baker iv) £2 to Mary Coldycott, widow. v) £10 to kinswoman [niece] Elizabeth Soden vi) £8 to Joan Soden [sister-in-law]. vii) £5 to daughter of William Wilks (3) Wearing apparel to brother George Baker. (4) Household goods to wife Elizabeth. (5) Residue to wife Elizabeth who is sole executrix. Overseers: Henry Croft, Thomas Mander and John Gibbs. Codicil - 2 May 1711 All interest from rents of Seabridge Close to Alexander Buller at 21 or marriage but if he dies before 21 or marriage, then all accumulated interest to testator's sister-in-law Joan Soden and her daughter Elizabeth Soden, who lives with testator, equally.
