Description

Letter, undated, from John Haryngton', William Leigh and Clement Fisher, to Arthur Gregorie, warning him that he is wrong to believe that he should be assessed in Coventree, because most of his land lies in Warwickshire and also because at the last assessment he produced a certificate under the hand of Sir Thomas Leigh to the effect that he should be taxed in Warwickshire. Followed by a note from Arthur Gregory to the mayor of Coventry, requesting him to send letters to Sir John explaining that they cannot tax him dwelling at Stychall, but warning them that if they decline to write then they cannot expect him in the future to pay his subsidies with Coventry. Also memorandum, dated June 1595, that Robert Bedford, mayor, and his brethren, have refused to write the letters but were willing to allow Arthur, though dwelling at Stychall, to be taxed with Warwick. Endorsed: To our lovinge freinde Mr. Arthur Gregorie give theie.
