Description

Conveyance from Temperance Upton of Brailes, widow, Thomas Upton of Brailes, labourer, and Mary Ann Upton of Brailes, spinster (widow and children of James Upton, died 17 August 1852, which James was the nephew of James Upton, late of Brailes, innkeeper, died 1820), with the consent of their mortgagees (the trustees of the late Samuel Gibbs of Brailes, maltster), to Richard Wilks of Sibford, co. Oxon., farmer, for £350, of: i) a messuage or mansion house in Brailes, containing two dwellings, and known as the Rose and Crown, late in the tenure of George Upton, since of James Upton and William Spencer and now of Temperance Upton, with a piece of garden ground adjoining the same, purchased by Robert Ashby from Nicholas Brain: all of which premises were purchased by James Upton, the elder, from William Sheldon on 1 January 1808 ii) a messuage in Lower Brailes late in the occupation of William Godson, glover, since of William Hands, and now untenanted, purchased by James Upton the elder from Richard Godson on 17 August 1816 .
