Description

Probate copy of the will of John Bromley of Stratford-upon-Avon, innholder, whereby he bequeathed to Alice his wife the sum of £50 and also certain furniture and household goods therein described; also to his grand-daughter, Phoebe Bell, a silver tankard and spoons; to his grandson, Ephraim Bell, his silver brushes and buttons and to his son-in-law, Richard Lord, his wearing apparell, and he devised the messuage wherein he then dwelt in Chapel Street called the Falcon Inn to his wife Alice for her life with remainder to his daughter, Susannah Lord, for her life with remainder in fee to his grandson William Bell upon condition that the said William Bell paid to his brother Ephraim, if the said Ephraim attained the age of 22 years, the sum of £20; he devised also to his said son-in-law, Richard Lord, during the life of testator's brother, William Bromley, his messuage with appurtenances which he purchased of John Lord, upon trust to pay the net rents and profits to the said William Bromley and thereafter he devised the same to his said grand-daughter, Phoebe Bell, and her heirs upon condition that she paid to her brother Ephraim Bell, if the said Ephraim attained the age of 22 years, the sum of £20 and the testator bequeathed the residue of his personal estate to Richard Lord and his, the testator's, grandchildren living at the date of his death in equal shares and he appointed the said Richard Lord his executor. Witnesses: Thomas Vigers, Edward Caning and Dios. Bradley. Probate by the peculiar court of Stratford-upon-Avon to Richard Lord on 22 January 1747/8. Seal of paper and wax.
