Compton Verney: early deeds

Description

Chirograph grant by William Murdak of Compton to Philip of Kineton of the wardship of the body of Henry, heir of Luke of Compton, with all the lands and tenements which the aforesaid Luke held within the fields of Compton Murdak when he died, and were held by him from the said William.

Also all those lands and tenements which Robert, son of Luke, father of the said Henry, held in the same manor, excepting only the dower of his [Robert's] wife for her life together with the marriage of the said heir.

To hold to Philip and his assigns and until the aforesaid heir comes of age. If he dies before he comes of age, then Philip is to have custody of the next heir of Luke until he is of age, reserving the marriage to William. Philip has paid for this twelve silver marks.
