Description

Charter of Robert son of Ralph de Bileneie [Binley] addressed to Richard [Pecche] bishop of Coventry, confirming the gift of his brother Joillinus to the monks of Cumba in free alms of all that part of his fee lying between the river Ebbeleswelle and the bounds of Smita, and also one quarter of his woodland on the western side. The said Robert also grants to the said monks in free alms one sixth part of the remaining three quarters of his woodland free from all services and exactions except that due to the lords of the said Robert, all this land being reckoned as one hide and being acquitted for the sixth part of a knight's fee; in consideration of which the said monks to pay the said Robert two marks silver, 4 shillings and a horse. Witnesses: Master Edmund the archdeacon, Richard his chaplain, Roger priest of Brinchela, Jordan priest, Richard de Kanvilla, Girard his son, Henry de Bileneie, Robert de Waver, Geoffrey de Waver, Roger de Waver, Richard clerk of Hengster', Liulf de Covent', Simeon his son, Richard de Huntanaford, Liulf son of Wulfketel de Coventroie, Geoffrey son of Emma, Roger son of Thoke, Odo Black (nigro) Tag and seal missing.
