Joseph Whitehouse, Independent Chapel, Stratford-upon-Avon

Description

Small notebook kept by the Reverend Joseph Whitehouse, minister of the Independent Chapel in Stratford-upon-Avon from 1804 to 1809. In it he records: - his previous ministry at Gornall, in Sedgeley, Staffordshire, 1799-1804, with a history of the chapel, from 1750; - his ministry at Stratford, 1804-1809, with a history of the chapel from 1704, a list of preachers, from 1759, and references to his troubles with the Stratford congregation (including transcripts of letters sent and received by him); - his ministry at Wilmcote, 1809-1817, including accounts for the building of a chapel there, 1812. Included are lists of : - members at the three chapels - burials at Stratford, 1784-1809 - burials personally conducted by Whitehouse at Gornall and Stratford, 1803-1812 - baptisms performed by Whitehouse at Gornall, Stratford and Wilmcote, 1802-1817. The latest entry appears to be notes for an agreement mainly concerned with the action to be taken should any member of a church become insolvent, 20 March 1819.
