Description

Grant from the Crown to Anne Archer, widow of Humphrey Archer gentleman, deceased, with the consent of the Master and Council of the Court of Wards and Liveries, of the wardship and marriage of Andrew Archer, son and heir of the said Humphrey, or if the said Henry [sic -?Andrew] died before 21 unmarried and without heirs, the wardship and marriage of the next heir under age until the said Anne had received the full benefit of one wardship and marriage; also an annuity of benefit of one wardship and marriage; also an annuity of £10 until the said Andrew reached the age of 13 and then £16 until he was 21, to be taken from certain manors and lands, then in the Queen's hands due to his minority, and which was to be paid to the said Anne by the Receiver General of the said court for the proper upbringing of the said Andrew; the valuation of the land of the said Humphrey submitted by the said Anne was to be viewed by the auditors of the said court at the cost of the said Anne, and if they had been undervalued the said Anne was to pay the difference at the rate of 3 years' value and also refund the money which she had received from the same from the time of her husband's death, the extent also to include any lands which the said Andrew was due to inherit before he was 21; the said Anne agreed to bring up the said Andrew in a fitting manner and allow no waste or spoil of the said lands or loss of deeds relating to the same and if any such occurred she was to report the matter to the said Master and Counsil and follow their orders for the recovery of the same; if the said Andrew unexpectedly inherited any other property before he was 21, the said Anne was to report the same within 6 months; the said Anne was forbidden to alienate this wardship and marriage to any person having any claim to any part of the said property or to use the annuity for any purpose other than that specified above; within 4 months of the bill of wardship and marriage being signed and delivered the said Anne was to take out Letters Patent under the Great seal, [see DR37/1/1338]; the said Anne was also every fourth year and when the said Andrew was 10 to bring him to the said Master and Council so that they could judge the quality of his manners, education and upbringing, on pain of forfeiture of the said grant of wardship and marriage. A dying seased Closes of land in Tan worth called the Ley, Monckhowse, Kyntland and Baruddinges, 3 messuages, 200 acres of land, 60 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture, 40 acres of woode, 2 pastures called Wood lands and Clarkes lands, one meadow called Woodlandes meadow, one close called Barnecrofte, held of the Queen as of her manor of Tamworth in socage for 20s. 41/2d. rent, 12 'shief or arrowes' and 2 capons, being of the annual value of £20. 5 pastures in Tamworth called Budlandes, Budlede, Mr William' Heth and Appultone, held of the Queen as of her manor of Tamworth in socage by fealty and 18s. 11d. rent, being of the annual value of £6. 13. 4d. Herefordshire A moiety of the manor of Woodhampton in Little Hereforde and the moiety of all lands belonging to the same in Woodhampton and Eston, 200 acres of land, 200 acres of pasture, 40 acres of meadow in Woodhampton, held of the Queen as of her honour of Brecknoke by knight service, being of the annual value of £17. 15. 11d. The ioynter of Anne laste wief of the said Humphrey Archer. The moiety of the third part of the manor of Little Heref', the moiety of the third part of the hamlet of Eston, the moiety of the third part of 7 messuages, 160 acres of land, 30 acres of meadow, 60 acres of pasture and 12 acres of wood in Eston, held from the Queen by knight service as of her honour of Brecknoke, being of the annual value of £17. 15. 11d. in the tenure and holdinge of Elynor Dalamere wydow late wief of Edmond Delamer Rem' after her death to Androw Archer as cosen and next heyer of Edmond Dalamere and Elynor his wief. The towns of Bryhampton and Myddelton parcel of the manor of Litle Hereforde, 6 messuages, 300 acres of land, 50 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture and 20 acres of wood in Bryhampton and Myddelton, held of the Queen as of her honour of Brecknoke by knight service, being of the annual value of £6. 13. 4d.
