Description

Defeasance from John Wandak' of Pylardinton' to John Gurmond and Richard de Stonleghe, reciting that whereas the said John Wandak' granted William Spone and John Durewassal of Spernore would quitclaim to John de Vaal and Hugh, vicar of the church of Etyndon', lands, etc. in Avendasset which the said John and Hugh held by feoffment of the said John Wandak', and this quitclaim to be given to the said John and Hugh before the feast of St. George the Martyr next [23 April]. Also the said John Wandak granted an assurance from John de Leye, lord of Ring----, i.e. that the said John de Leye was to make a general acquittance to the said John Wandak' for all manner of debts for which the said John Wandak' was bound to the said John de Leye by statute merchant or by recognaisance in the King's court, by which acquittance the said John Wandak, John le Vaal and Hugh, his feoffees, were to be quit of all debts due to the said John de Leye on this day, and for greater security the said general acquittance was to be dated after this agreement, and delivered to the said Hugh, vicar of Etyndon' before the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross next [3 May]. Also the said John Wandak' granted that the said John de Vaal and Hugh should be quit of rents, etc. in Auenedesset due to Simon de Vaal of Bannebury and Isabella his wife amounting to 5 marks which was owing to the said Isabella. Also the said John Wandak' was to give the said John de Vaal a statute merchant by which John Neel of Derset was bound to Sir Edward de Barford', to hold freely until these covenants were performed and to give to the said Richard of Stonlegh' in case they were not. Also the said John Wandak' was to free his demense land in Great Derset between this date and the feast of St. Michaelmas one year of a debt by which John Neel of Derset was found by statute merchant to Jordan Shepeye of Couyntre. The said John Gurmond and Richard de Stonlegh' granted that if these covenants were performed before the feast of the Holy Cross next [?Invention 3 May] that then a bond of statute merchant made by the said John Wandak to the said Richard de Stonlegh' for £50 would be void, but otherwise stand in full force.
