Probate copy of the will of Edward Ralegh' knight bequeathing through his recoverors: 1. an estate of the yearly value of £40 to his son Antony and his wife 'if she be a good woman and of good levyng of her body' for their lives. 2. 20s. to the mother church of Our Lady of Couentr' for masses. 3. 6s. 8d. to the monastery of Solhull' for forgotten tithes. 4. 6s. 8d. to the churches of Warmyleyghton', Fennycompton', Avendorsett, Warmyngton', Cleydon' and Molyngton'. 5. 20s. to the use of which he was patron. 6. 10s. to the order of St. Domynink' at Warwick', the Friars Minor at Coventre, the White Friars of Couentr' and the Augustinians at Atherston'. 7. a sufficient estate at Combroke to his son Antony; to hold for ever. 8. land of the value of £400 in the shires of Herford' and Glouc' to be reserved for the purchase of land to the yearly value of £10 to obtain a licence from the King for a well disposed Doctor of Divinity for the chantry of the said chapel of Our Lady to preach and pray for the souls of his family. 9. 100s. to the house of Clatercote. 10. £20 for the building of the steeple of Farnborough' church. 11. One mark for Dom Oliver --------, monk of the monastery of Combe, to be Doctor of Divinity at Barnard's College, Oxforth'. 12. £30 for the building and glazing of the south cloister at Combe, prayers to be said for Edward, Margaret, William, Elizabeth and Ralph Verney and his ancestors. 13. 20s. to the abbot of Combe, 6s. 8d. for every priest and 3s. 4d. for every monk not a priest. 14. her debts as shown in bills of 26 April 7 Henry VII [1492] to Anne Harwell' widow from his property in Herford' and Gloucestr'. 15. the manors of Westhagynton', Charlez, Westbokeland', county Deveye, and 28 messuages, 500 acres of land, 100 acres of meadow, 1,000 acres of pasture, 1,000 acres of wood, 100 acres of furze and heath and 40s. rent in Westhagynton', Ilfercombe, Charlez, Westbokelond', Clowyngborough, Court', Knolwaston', Dypford' and the advowsons of the churches of Charlez and Westbokelond' in the said county to the use of his son Antony and Elizabeth his wife for their lives, then to the lawful heirs of the said Edward Ralegh' and in default to the rightful heirs of the said Edward Ralegh. 16. all other property to his son Antony. The said Antony Ralegh' appointed sole executor, with Sir Ralph Verney knight as supervisor, for which he was to receive £10 and his costs. Witnesses: Oliver, abbot of Combe, Walter Wolmer, priest, Sir John Wich', vicar of Farnborough', Sir Robert Throgmorton', knight, Hugh Mervyn', William Wilkok', and others.
