Description

Agreement between William de Bottel' and Henry de la Lee concerning a new ditch which the said William has made to the harm of the mill de lee, whereby the said William agrees 1) to sustain a sufficient flow of water to the mill in such a way that this stream shall not cross the land between the said ditch and his furlong of Bottel' unless by flood; 2) to break up the rest of the said ditch in such a way that the said Henry shall come to no harm; 3) that the said Henry shall have a road 24 feet in width between the old ditch and the said William's furlong of Bottel', leading from the King's highway to the said mill and paths leading up and down the stream to the said mill; 4) that the said Henry shall have the fishery in the old water near the mill pond which the said Henry had made in such a way that the said Henry shall keep his middle sluices; and in exchange the said Henry agreed 1) to give to the said William free multure as much as pertains to the house of the said William at Bottel'; 2) to render to the said William 4s. 6d. in equal portions at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist [24 June] and Christmas except for 6d. which he owes; 3) to dam up the great ditch which he had made through the middle of the great field in the upper headland and to maintain the dam in such a way that the said William shall not have any impediment to his free house at Bottel'.
