Description

Copy of the will of Phillipps Glover of Wispington, Lincolnshire, dated 5 July 1742, with the following bequests: i) to his wife, estates in Headlethorpe and Maplethorpe, Lincolnshire, which he purchased from John Cross and William Hart, and a farm in Winthorpe and Addlethorpe, Lincolnshire, which he purchased from John Fowler, in lieu of £5,000 agreed to be laid out in the purchase of land in his marriage settlement; or, if she shall refuse, he bequeaths to Dr. Benjamin Avery and Charles Wood of Horesby, Lincolnshire, £5,000 in trust to purchase land. ii) to his only son, Phillipps Glover, and his heirs male, all his manors in Lincoln. iii) to Dr. Benjamin Avery and Charles Wood, his manor of Lapford, Devon, in trust to sell and to purchase free-hold messuages in Lincoln to the use of his son, Phillipps Glover. iv) to the use of his son, Phillipps Glover, all lands held from the Dean and Chapter of Exeter. v) to his only daughter, Mary Glover, £3,000. vi) minor bequests to his friends. His wife appointed executrix. Codicil 20 August 1744: bequeathing to his wife a farm at Calstrope, Lincolnshire, which he lately purchased from Elizabeth Walsh of Grimblethorpe in consideration of his wife's acceptance of the estates mentioned in his will as satisfaction for the £5,000 covenanted to be settled; also £500 to his wife.
