General note: Title words "Suprisal, committee," and "Indian-queen, ... Lerma," are enclosed within braces. Frontis. portrait (plate) of the author signed: G: Kneller Eques pinxit R. White sculpsit. The preface contains a discussion of the use of rhyme in dramatic verse, which occasioned Dryden's Essay of dramatick poesie. Howard replied in the preface to The great favourite, or, The Duke of Lerma. "The Surprisal", "The Committee", "The Indian Queen", "The Vestal Virgin, or The Roman Ladies" and "The Great favourite, or the Duke of Lerma" each have separate dated title pages; pagination and register are continuous. The Indian queen is partly by Dryden. With an epilogue.
