Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors/ [translated into Marathi], [Bhrantikrit Chamatkar]

This is a second edition printing of Bhrantirita Chamarkara, the Marathi translation of The Comedy of Errors from 1882. The original was published in 1878. Inside the front cover of this copy is a hand written note which translates the title page of this book, and of the 1882 Marathi Romeo and Juliet which can be found at 3138. The translation reads as: "The Wonder ???? by Errors / This book has been prepared for the entertainment of intellectual people. Second edition. Printed at Bombay in the Indian Printing Press in the year 1882/ To be had at the Useful Knowledge Society's Depot, Bombay / Price 6 Annas." On the back cover there is a passage copied in three language - English and two other Indic languages. The English passage reads: "Bhrantikrita Chamatkara - This is a translation of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors. It is written in a popular language, and has been on some occasions acted on the stage with applause" Original list entry: Hyderabad 1. Comedy of Errors, in Marathi (Bhrantikrit Chamarkar) Gift of the Home Department, Government of India to Her Majesty's (Queen Victoria) Secretary for the State of India (Sir R.R Cross [Viscount Cross from 19 August 1886]), and thence by the India Office, London. Since 1964, the Library has been held on deport at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
