General note: The Oxford edition of 1744 was edited by Sir Thomas Hanmer, who followed Pope's edition of 1723-25. The above title is prefixed to v. 1 only; v. 2-9 have title: The works of Mr. William Shakespear ... 1747. The latter title appears also in v. 1 as added title page. Each play has a separate half-title, and an engraving repeated from Theobald's 1740 ed. Vol. 1 has a frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare engraved by G. Vander Gucht; also includes plate of Shakespeare's monument facing "Some account of the life ...". "Mr. Pope's preface": v. 1, p. [ix]-xxiv.
