Lanchester marionette; William Shakespeare

Description

A Lanchester marionette; William Shakespeare; mid twentieth century. Made, dressed and designed by Waldo Lanchester and Muriel Lanchester, heads carved by Jack Whitehead. Created for the play "Shakes versus Shav", written by George Bernard Shaw for the Lanchester Marionettes, first performed by them at the Lyttleton Hall, Malvern, August 9th, 1949. In the production, Shakespeare was voiced by Sir Lewis Casson.
