Razor

Description

An early seventeenth-century cased razor; brown leather covered case with two compartments; width tapers; open at both ends, very worn at narrow end; steel razor with bone handle, two steel rivets hold handle together and form swivel point; blade tapers from tip to handle and opens to just over right-angle; scratched on handle the date '1604', the name 'Josh Cols' and the number '2'. The razor was found by labourer William Girling in a cottage in Chapel Lane, Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 17th May 1862. It was between the joist and wall in the front bedroom of the cottage.
