Embroidered cushion

Description

Cushion, c. 1650-1700. Embroidered panel, possibly cut from a larger piece, and mounted as a small cushion with the reverse of pink velvet fabric of more recent date. The panel is worked on canvas in woollen threads, with the principal colours being blue, green, brown (although there is significant colour loss). Design features a man and woman wearing mid/late 17th century dress, standing amidst foliage with 2 birds above. Beneath them are plants and 2 animals. Cushion is trimmed with braid, fringe, and tassels of coloured threads.
