Description

A late 18th-century oak settle; the high-standing panelled back with two rows of four diamond-carved panels in channel-moulded framework; the scrolled arms with baluster-turned supports; the moulded plank seat with lifting central lid above three conforming front panels and framework; further single conforming panels to the ends, and three more to the interior; English, North Country, c.1760 (incorporating an earlier bed tester c.1680. originally with eight diamond-carved panels, partially dismantled and adapted); later bracing behind one upper rear panel, patch to rear of top rail,lower front panel patched, bottom boards replaced, rear feet tipped.
