Sampler
Description
Sampler, 1687. Long rectangular sampler worked on cream linen in coloured silk threads, with the principal colours being blue, red, green - although there has been extensive colour loss. Sampler is worked in rows, and features the alphabet, birds, snails, flowers and fruits. The name and date - 'Elizabeth Herne May 10th 1687' - is embroidered at the lower edge. Sampler is mounted onto fabric within a fabric-covered mount, and is framed in a glazed wooden frame.
