Wooden tankard

Description

A late 18th century wooden tankard; lidded; lid carved with crowned lion with star/sun above, standing on heraldic axe; thumb piece carved with lion sejant affronty; handle with foliate carving and shaped base; three feet, two are lions, third is two lions' heads addorsed; rim of base and lid gouge-carved; marked 1761 on interior; considerable worm-damage but not active; handle strengthened with brass clamp and rivets; one foot damaged; two cracks in body.
