David Garrick with a bust of Shakespeare

Description

An engraving of David Garrick with a bust of Shakespeare; framed and glazed. Engraved by Valentine Green from the painting by Thomas Gainsborough. The painting by Gainsborough was destroyed in a fire at Stratford-upon-Avon's Town Hall in 1946. The landscape in the background of the picture probably represents the grounds of Wilton House; Peter Scheemakers sculpted a statue of Shakespeare for the house in 1743.
