Description

Deed Box, c. 1577-1600. A sixteenth century deed box; covered with leather and lined with leaves from 'M. Frobisher's first voyage fro the discovery of Cataya', published in 1577. Handwritten contents notes on box lid which is inscribed 'Acquittances for the Subsidye et al. acquitts.', A sixteenth century deed box; covered with leather (pig skin) and lined with leaves from George Best's 'A True Discourse of the Late Voyages of Discoverie, for the Finding of a Passage to Cathaya', published in 1578, and Thomas Bentley's 'The Monument of Matrones', published in 1582. Handwritten contents notes on box lid which is inscribed 'Acquittances for the Subsidye et al. acquitts.'
