Bow brooch

Description

Bow brooch (W195); Romano-British; part of purse contents; cast copper alloy; lozenge section, length 40 mm, max width (at head) 7 mm. Reverse - pin lugs intact, part of casting; triangular catch-plate, max height 7 mm, max width 16 mm; hinge-plate, max height 5 mm, max width 5.5 mm; spring mechanism and pin mising. Obverse - winged head piece 7 mm x 5 mm, traces of median rib, height 2 mm, width 2 mm running down bow as far as a part broken central fin-like projection, surviving height 2.5 mm, max width 7 mm; half round knobbed foot, height 1.5 mm, width 3 mm.
