Millennium Atmos Clock

Description

Atmos clock manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre of Switzerland, designed by Robert Kohler. The clock is designed to run for a thousand years and is powered by small alterations in atmospheric pressure. Housed in a trapeze-shaped glass case supported by rhodium-plated cones. Presented by the manufacturers in collaboration with George Pragnell Ltd. of Stratford-upon-Avon. Jaeger-LeCoultre also financed the provision of a reproduction painted back-drop and surround for the clock (the original painted by Benedict Rubbra). In association with the installation of the clock, a time capsule filled with memorabilia of Stratford and Shakespeare from the millennium year was fitted in the Visitors' Centre.
