Description

A full length portrait of Horace Sequeira, actor, playing the role of Andrew Aguecheek at the Old Vic, London in a 1918-19 production of 'Twelfth Night'; oil on canvas. The subject is depicted seated, head resting on his hand, with his elbow propped on a table; pewter tankard, bottle of wine and candles burning in a candelabra beside him on the table; a viol is beside him placed on the floor resting on the table in reference to his supposed ability to play the 'viol de gamboys'; on a stool to the subject's left there is a hat. Distressed composition frame (no trace of gilding and shellac showing through).
