Steve Kaufman, a.k.a SAK (1960-2010)

American artist Steve Alan Kaufman entered the world of serious pop art as a teenager when he became an assistant to Andy Warhol at The Factory. New York. He was nicknamed ‘SAK’ by Warhol.

Hand painted oil on canvas silkscreen, based on the engraving by Martin Droeshout of William Shakespeare for the title page of the First Folio collection of Shakespeare’s plays, published in 1623.

Signed on reverse, 1996

Donated by Steve Kaufman Art in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
