Pedestal table

Description

Circular mulberry wood table, the top veneered in laburnum oyster and pollard oak; the scrolled pyramidal pedestal raised on carved scroll feet. According to a reference this table was made by Thomas Sharp in 1770 for the town clerk and was presented by Bellow to the Trust. Levi Fox's book has a different account, saying that the table was made for Thomas Hunt - son of William Hunt - in 1825. He mentions that it was acquired 'together with the account for making it and its full history' - this provenance is supported by paperwork accompanying the table on its acquisition.
