Folding cardboard box

Description

A folding, corrugated cardboard box with handles. The exterior of the box is white with decoration printed in olive green and orange-red. This box constitutes the original packaging for a set of six commemorative plates featuring the portraits of Queen Elizabeth I and five of her court favourites [cf. STRST : SBT 2019-3/9.1-6]. This set of plates is part of an exclusive range of souvenir lines produced by Holkham Pottery Ltd. (Norfolk) in collaboration with Lidor Holdings Ltd. (Surrey) and sold by W.H. Smith & Son to accompany the 1964 Shakespeare Exhibition; this exhibition toured Stratford-upon-Avon, Edinburgh, and London in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth.
