Standing cupboard

Description

A late 17th-century oak standing cupboard; the rectangular two-plank top edged with a narrow moulded cornice (gouge-carved to the front); the cupboard portion with two doors above and one door below, the six panels carved with diamonds and the framing generally channel-moulded; raised on high stile feet, with a plain stretcher to each side; English, North Country, about 1680; from collection of St. John Hornby; hinges changed several times; feet tipped and right-hand front stile spliced.
