Description

A mid 17th-century oak panel-back armchair of caqueteuse form, the lunette-shaped and carved cresting-rail above a diamond-carved panel flanked by uprights carved with opposed lunettes; the shaped flat arms above column-turned supports; the moulded seat above a lunette-carved frieze and column-turned legs joined by plain stretchers; English, Salisbury, about 1640; the lunette crest broken and repaired; some re-carving to the back panel; front of the right-hand arm replaced, also front edge of seat and front stretcher.
