A co-production between the Royal Shakespeare Company and two amateur companies: the Castle Players and the People's Theatre. Regional primary schools were also used, St Michael's Roman Catholic Primary School and Sacred Heart Catholic High School. Performances started at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The production then toured round the country with local amateur dramatic groups playing the roles of the mechanicals and local primary school children playing the fairies. These groups all came to perform in Stratford for different dates when the production returned in the summer.
The Mechanicals (the Castle Players): March 16, 19, 22, 23, & 25
The Mechanicals (the People's Theatre): March 17, 18, 21, 24, & 26
