Be Inspired: Shakespeare and Me

Steve Lubin: Author and illustrator

Steve Lubin's line drawing, 'Bardolatree', is an illustration created for the second edition of 'Twig-Lits: A Cartoon Commentree', also by Lubin. 'Twig-Lits' is a book of cartoons intended to raise awareness of environmental issues.

About the piece Lubin writes:

'... what better way to celebrate the genius and beauty of Mother Nature, than with the genius and incomparable beauty of Shakespeare’s works.

BARDOLATREE [baardolatRi]

n. A deep, eternal admiration for the works of William Shakespeare; also, a tree used by those in the animal kingdom to stage the plays and sonnets of the aforementioned Bard.

Yorick. Many languages. One meaning

The plays and sonnets of the world’s pre-eminent dramatist and poet, a true force of Nature, are revered universally, and have been translated into over one hundred languages. In these times of political uncertainty and social discord, it behoves us all to identify and celebrate the values that unite us, not divide us. These shared values, such as peace, freedom, social progress, equal rights and human dignity have the same meaning in every language — as does the genius, beauty and relevance of Shakespeare’s timeless, and timely, works.'
