Shakespeare Connected - Costuming Shakespeare: Elizabethan Dress through the Centuries
The Tempest - Royal Shakespeare Company, 2016-17
The past two years have seen a trend in the use of Elizabethan aesthetics to separate fantastical spaces in Shakespeare’s plays from their real-world counterparts. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2016-17 production of The Tempest saw Iris, Ceres, and Juno (all mythical goddesses) appear in LED-lit, Elizabethan-inspired gowns to establish the characters’ otherworldly origins.
