Shakespeare Connected - Imagining New Place

2. The Second New Place

This painting of New Place was found in a collection of papers by Shakespeare enthusiast Captain James Saunders. Some people imagine this to be the house Shakespeare lived in, but that New Place was demolished by Sir John Clopton about 1702 and replaced by the building seen in this picture.
