Made from a thin sheet of copper alloy folded round into a tube shape, these were used to bind the ends of textile or leather laces to stop them from fraying. The small number of these recovered from the site give an insight into the types of clothing worn by its occupants. Research has suggested that lace chapes were in use from the mid 14^th century onwards and continued to be used into the post-medieval period.
