Shakespeare Connected - Shakespeare’s New Place: Artefacts and Inhabitants

Bone Handle (Late 16th to early 17th Century) (Context 1060, Season 2)

Possible knife handle. A turned bone handle with rounded copper alloy fitting at one end. The shaft of the handle is covered with floral designs and indecipherable script, possibly the work of a young person, who may well have tried to write their name on the object. This was recovered from a late 16th to early 17th century context.  This object evokes a personal connection with the inhabitants of Shakespeare’s New Place.
