This painting was gifted to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust as a tribute to Shakespeare 2016 as part of the worldwide celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.  Painted in 1996 by American pop artist Steve Kauffman, this contemporary interpretation of the iconic Droeshout portrait was undertaken as a tribute to Shakespeare.
