Sharing Shakespeare's Story

The King's Ship

By Ben Ryan and Rupert Todd

A direct link with The TempestThe King’s Ship is a stunning representation of a ship from the Tudor period. Artist Ben Ryan explains: “The King’s Ship is a sculptural expression of the wonder found in Shakespeare’s works, both in his own literary craft and in the imagination his works set free in the reader.  The ship from The Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s most magical plays, is a sculptural representation of the beauty of Shakespeare’s writing and of the world which was unfolding in front of him.”

I love the ship because it looks amazing and the detail is perfect. It is at New Place and it is completely made out of metal.

I like the way they designed the ship in sliver coloured stainless steel. I like ships and I'm going to be the captain of one when I'm older.

This is my favourite item because it weighs half a small car. It is made of stainless steel which is silver. It arrived in the New Place garden in 2017.
