Still my beating mind

WINNER, 4-7 years

Who created it?

Hugo, age 7

Biography

"I am seven years-old. I quite like reading and writing. I try to spend as much time with family as I can."

My creative response

A Stormy Mind

I’ve tormented those sailors, bad spirits I have sent,

Is that not enough, to force them to repent?

They’ve been mean to me, but should I forgive them,

And let them steer the wooden ship at its mighty helm.

A turn or two I’ll walk, to still my beating mind,

That often helps to stop bad thoughts I find.

My mind is whirring, my imagination buzzing,

My memories in a sea,

Those men who are so evil, when I picture them only murderers I see.

But maybe hope for my ruthless relatives is here,

For I do not want to be a wizard, from whom people live in fear.

A turn or two I’ll take, to still my beating mind,

My past troubles with my brother I shall put behind.

What do you do to ‘still your beating mind’?
