Still my beating mind

James' Poem, First Runner-up, 4-7 years

FIRST RUNNER-UP, 4-7 years

Who created it?

James, age 7

Biography

"My name is James and I’m seven years-old. I enjoy tennis, skiing and being with my brothers."

My creative response

“A turn or two I’ll walk, To still my beating mind”

Let’s go for a walk, where we can talk.

It’ll make you feel better to be in the weather!

Breathe in, breathe out and shout,

“it’ll all be ok for tomorrow is another day!”

About my creative response

"I like to do poetry. I like rhyming things when I write and it makes my brain active because I need to think a lot more."

What does this Shakespeare quote mean to you?

"It tells me that I need to be active and it will help me distract from unhappiness. I do like writing poems to cheer myself up and also go for a walk outside in the forest."

What do you do to ‘still your beating mind’?

“I try to talk about any problems I have, take a deep breath and cuddle my brothers (or dogs) to ‘still my beating mind’.”

Who is your favourite Shakespeare character?

"I like Puck from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He is a cheeky guy!"
