Biography

“I am Khalid. I’m ten years-old. I have a twin brother and three other brothers. I like to write and play. I like playing fantasy games with my brothers, mostly survival games.”

 

My creative response

To thine own self be true

To thine own self be true

What does this mean to you?

For me it means to be myself,

Like when I pretend to be in a movie,

And do tricks and flips and sword fight with sticks,

Or pretend to breakdance and fall on the floor,

And laugh and laugh and laugh some more.

To thine own self be true,

Where do you find yourself in a book or when you cook?

I find myself when I write.

We all find ourselves a different way but that is OK,

Be yourself, it’s the best – it’s better than being like the rest.

 

About my creative response

“I chose to write a poem because I find it relaxing, also I think it is fun to write poems. Being yourself is important because if you’re not true to yourself you won’t be true to others.”

 

When have you been ‘true to yourself’?

“I wish I could become a teacher so I could help my little brother with his school work at home. I also want to be an author as I prefer to express my feelings through writing. I think it is important to be true to yourself as I don’t want to have any regrets or thoughts of ‘what if?’”

‘To be or not to be…’ from Hamlet.
