Biography

“I am Petra and I am 10 years-old, I enjoy gymnastics, stilt walking and baking but not all at the same time! I have a cute cat called Mono and two squeaky guinea pigs called Spot and Spike. I’m really interested in Greek myths and I hope to go to Athens one day but for now Cornwall and Norfolk are my favourite places!”

My creative response

A Cake of Me

About my creative response

“I chose to bake a cake for my response to the quote because I saw an author’s poem called “A Recipe For Me” and that inspired me to make a cake that reflected my own true self. It is a ginger cake with lemon meringue on top as these are my favourite flavours. The zesty lemon represents my zesty nature and the sweet ginger represents that I can be sweet even though you might not think it. The pieces of stem ginger represent how unpredictable (in a good way) I can be.

“I chose traditional flavours because I'm more of a traditional girl than most others and because I love history. I chose bat and pumpkin sprinkles because I love Halloween, and the blue, black and purple sprinkles are because I love dark colours.

“The butterflies (which are all handmade (by me) out of sugar paste) all represent things as well: blue represents happiness; purple represents calm; green represents playfulness.”

When have you been ‘true to yourself’?

“I have been true to myself because the black butterfly shows that I am a goth - something I don't normally tell people. The white chocolate star and flower represent there is always light in the darkness.

“I was true to myself last year at Brownies when I was told that I could either move into a different six and become sixer straight away or stay in my own six and wait six months to become a sixer. I chose to stay in my own six because I wanted to stick with my friends and my team. Waiting was hard and I was tempted to move but it was worth it in the end when I got one of my best friends as my seconder. If I had become sixer straight away I would have missed out on this great partnership.”

Who is your favourite Shakespeare character?

“My favourite character from a Shakespeare play is Viola from Twelfth Night. I chose her because she will do anything possible to find the people she loves. She is bold, courageous and sticks with it when the going gets tough.”
