Admin History

Under the terms of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, the new Unions of Parishes were obliged to build workhouses, that for Stratford being opened in 1836 on a site in Arden Street which subsequently formed part of the Hospital. In 1929 its administration was transferred to the Public Assistance Committee of Warwickshire County Council
